4. Sergey Karjakin este cetatean rus
Stirile din sah ale anului 2009 sunt dominate de Sergey Karjakin. El a castigat foarte convingator turneul Corus 2009. Putin mai tarziu, a facut parte din echipa lumii in meciul cu Azerbaidjan, si multe alte meciuri castigate in stil de mare campion.
Pe 24 iulie Karjakin a fost din nou in atentia mass mediei , datorita mariajului cu WGM Kateryna Dolzhykova, ceremonia avand loc la Kiev.
La inceputul lui 2009 Karjakin a hotarat sa se mute in Rusia si sa se alature Federatiei Ruse de Sah. Cateva luni maitarziu a completat formularele pentru schimbarea federatiei. Sergey Karjakin este de acum jucator si cetatean al Rusiei, documentul oficial a fost semnat pe 25 iulie, personal de presedintele Rusiei, Dmitry Medvedev.
